Building My Aesthetic Practice: The Journey to Independence and Lagom Beauty

INTRODUCTION

After 18 years of practicing medicine, I found myself at a crossroads. The deciding factor was the realization that I no longer wanted to work for someone else’s brand, where my contributions often went unappreciated. I yearned for the freedom to be my own boss, to take full control of my future. It was a gut feeling that the universe was nudging me to take charge, and I listened.

THE SPARK OF INDEPENDENCE

The journey to opening my own aesthetic practice began with a pivotal moment of self-discovery. I wanted my successes and failures to be a direct result of my own decisions and efforts. The freedom that comes with self-employment is exhilarating; if I fail it’s because of me, and if I succeed, it’s also because of me. This realization was my motivating force to embark on this new chapter.

A FOUNDATION OF EXPERIENCE

With 18 years of medical experience and several years in aesthetics, I had profound understanding of what worked and what didn’t in aesthetic medicine. My strength had always been in connecting with patients on a deeper level, actively listening to their needs, and building trust. This solid foundation would become the cornerstone of my journey into entrepreneurship.

THE BIRTH OF LAGŌM

In August of 2023, an opportunity presented itself that would reshape my future. It was an opportunity that connected me with people who shared my vision and would help me bring it to life. I spent several weeks meticulously defining my brand, honing in on who I was, what I wanted to convey, and what resonated with me. The word “Lagōm” kept coming to mind— a Swedish term meaning “just the right amount” or “perfect balance.”

Over the next 90 days, I dedicated myself to shaping my practice around the Lagōm concept, focusing on balanced colors, a balanced feel, and balanced beauty both inside and out. The journey of creating Lagōm beauty was guided by a vision that extended beyond the external aesthetic. Recognizing the profound link between health and beauty, I knew that functional nutrition would play an integral role in achieving this balance. True beauty is not merely skin deep; it is a reflection of inner vitality and health.

THE GRUELING PRE-LAUNCH

Once I registered my business and secured a location to practice, it was a whirlwind of activity. Countless hours were spent on finding a medical director to collaborate with, obtaining malpractice and liability insurance, building my website, ramping up social media presence, establishing business bank accounts, setting up pharmacy accounts, ordering supplies, meeting with lawyers, and meticulously designing the space. It was hands-on work, including assembling and installing floors and cabinets. The final piece of the pre-launch was brainstorming with Nutritional Love, LLC on how we could offer a holistic solution that goes beyond traditional aesthetics.

THE REWARD OF LAUNCH

After 2.5 months of nonstop dedication, my vision finally came to life. My aesthetic practice launched on November 6, exactly 3 months after deciding I wanted to be my own boss. The sense of accomplishment was immeasurable as I gazed at a space that had been transformed into a haven of balanced beauty. I am excited about what the future holds, the opportunity to provide comprehensive aesthetic services to my patients, and the freedom to reshape my own destiny.
